What is Cloisonné?
The word cloisonné comes from a French word for “cell.” In pin manufacturing, the word references the manufacturing process used to produce these high-quality pins. The cloisonné process dates back to the 1200s. Employed in ancient China to produce vases and other fine art, the cloisonné process was used throughout the Ming Dynasty.
This bronze-casting process has been perfected over the centuries and is used to create the highest-quality lapel pin available. They are also the most expensive type of custom pin, since the manufacturing process is more complicated and time-consuming. They are rarely, if ever, used for trading.

How are they made?
A metal sheet is stamped with your unique design to create raised and recessed areas similar to a coin. Referring to your design, the recessed areas are then filled with a glass-like color resin. To ensure that the colors do not bleed, each color in your pin is fired separately. The firing temperature for the cloisonné pins exceeds 1600°F. The once powdery resin becomes hard enamel with a glossy finish, resulting in a collectible jewelry-quality pin.
