When designing your custom lapel pins or custom trading pins, one of the most important factors to consider is what size pin to use. Lapel pin size is determined by measuring the widest point across the surface of the pin in any direction.
A 3/4" pin is recommended for a small custom lapel pin containing a logo without very small lines or fine detail, and most often is a die struck style lapel pin. If a higher level of detail is required for a pin to be worn in a business setting, a 1" to 1.25" size is ideal for a die struck pin or a custom cloisonne style lapel pin as well.
Most Little League or softball tournament trading pins are a minimum of 1.5" in size, due to the detail and coloring used. The average size for custom trading pins is 1.75", as this allows a large amount of detail while still keeping the team information very visible and the colors of the pin bold and easily distinguishable.
